  2. Love is work made Invisible by Lucille Valentine

    January 30, 2012 by Jaine
    Love is work made invisible
I darned the unravelling hole in a knitted top for a friend.  When I was done darning, the effort, and the weaving back and forth of my needle and thread, was invisible. Neither she nor eye could see where the hole had been.  And I thought, this is love, when work becomes invisible.
A beautiful meadow requires mowing and benefits from scattering of wildflower seeds at the right time and in the right place – so that in spring it looks perfect and pristine and untouched.  When a teacher prepares for a lesson, while being meticulous in understanding what is needed, after the lesson the students come away thinking they did it all themselves.  Restoring any human space to a natural order, repaired and revived and cleaned leaving no sign of your hand.  Raising a child and stepping back.
Again and again it becomes clear to me that this is what no ego means.  Clearing the path just because the path needs clearing and I like clearing the path and then, if nobody knows that I cleared the path that is OK.  He is walking the path and that is his work, he is pushing a wheelbarrow along the path. That I cleared. And then one day maybe he realises that somebody cleared the path.  Like my realisation, now that I have children of my own that, ah yes, my mother planned the meals and cleaned and did that work, my father grew me vegetables. Invisible at the time.
There is no glory, no recognition even.  Love is work made invisible.

  7. Harry Hotpants checking in

    September 14, 2011 by Harry

Hello to all you lovely people in the Earth Pathways Diary community. I haven’t checked in for a while so I thought I’d take five minutes to update you on my latest adventures since the tall people are busy working on their different projects and haven’t shared any eco-news here for a while (actually, I don’t really know what my Mummy does all day – I think she must sit reading her book and filing her nails. Her pace is S..L..O..W.. and there’s a lot of wafting and sighing going on, but absolutely nothing to compare with my 100-mile-an-hour crawling/climbing/’hanging on to the furniture to navigate around the room’ antics). Anyway, Mummy’s semi-catatonic state has given me the opportunity to hack in to her computer (apparently everyone’s at it) and negotiate my way round a couple of blogs – this one included – to post my own perspectives of the world for everyone to see! 8. All our relations

    July 8, 2011 by Jaine

Today we are pleased to welcome another guest blogger to this space! Jess Bundy very kindly put in the highest bid for the last copy of our 2011 Earth Pathways Diary in the auction that we held recently. She was thrilled to win it, and donated the money raised in memory of her grandmothers Muriel Ward and Una Bundy. Over to you Jess……

In memory of Muriel Ward and Una Bundy

I was very inspired when I saw my teacher thumbing through her copy of the Earth Pathways Diary 2011. It looked like an expensive gleaming jewel enticing me to look inside. To anyone who was the slightest bit arty, creative or perhaps someone with just a mere whiff of earth connection would be immediately captivated by its pages. I managed to catch a glimpse of the title and web address and from that point I was smitten!I heard that someone somewhere had found the last ever copy of the Earth Pathways Diary for 2011. It was being auctioned and I wanted it. So I put in a bid. Of course I wanted to look inside and feast on the art work and words that adorned its pages. I also saw this as an opportunity to support a fantastic charity in memory of my grandmother Muriel Ward. Muriel passed away in November 2010 very sadly with dementia. She was 94 years old. (more…)

  10. Midsummer gathering…

    June 21, 2011 by Jaine

Hello dairy friends, we are sending Midsummer Solstice blessings from the Earth Pathways team, scattered as we are, up and down the U.K, and all doing our own special things today. This includes seeing the sun rise at Stonehenge, making magical gardens in the Greenfields site at Glastonbury festival, and for us in Stroud, meeting tonight at the Red Hearth House – a beautiful space set up by one of our contributors for women to come and drum, sing, and be together.

So a gathering I went this morning, to our little nature reserve a minutes walk from my house, as we are planning to make a mandala with midsummer plants and leaves. I picked Oak and Holly leaves, some baby Rowan berries, and some dark mother Beech leaves.

Oh, and I also sniffed out some newly flowering Sweet Woodruffe which I plan to infuse into some delicious dessert wine for a little pep-me-up tonic. I found myself thinking too about Da Witches from Sensory Solutions (they are gloriously quirky diary contributors!) who showed us how to pick lime blossoms at the Solstice for calming teas – and I wouldn’t be a proper witch without those herby teas on hand in my kitchen at any given moment hey??

So that has been my Midsummer morning so far, with the sun bravely trying to push through stormy clouds over our valley. Wishing you all boldness, firey hearts and full stories……whatever your plans.
